A new lens:
Whole Family Impact

We’re committed to supporting families as they navigate the challenges of pediatric cancer. Our work focuses on alleviating the financial, emotional, and practical burdens that families face beyond the hospital. Through insights gained from families and a community of experts, we’re designing solutions that address the Whole Family Impact. Watch the video to learn more about our mission and how you can be a part of creating meaningful change for pediatric cancer families.

The challenge

Medicine has made incredible strides in treating pediatric cancer. Now it’s time to help the families.

A diagnosis for the whole family

What if a pediatric cancer diagnosis could actually make a family stronger, healthier, happier, and more successful? It’s a wild thought, we know, but it’s what we’re trying to do.

Medical science and treatments for pediatric cancer have been making great strides – survival rates are up and climbing. But the healthcare system is focused exclusively on the patients.

Doctors, nurses, hospitals, and social workers are doing great work, but they and everybody else need new ways to help the whole family.

From the gut-wrenching moment they learn their child has cancer, parents and other caregivers are dropped into a world of financial and emotional agony and real-world problems: marital challenges, job loss, financial hardship, school absences, and struggling siblings.

Of course, the children with cancer come first. But these children need more than great medical care — they need their families to recover, survive, and thrive.

OUR APPROACH

We’re imagining, designing, and developing innovations in family care that build on medical breakthroughs.

UX for Good founder Jason Ulaszek (on the right) is a leading user experience designer and will head up the design team. Jason is also the father of a pediatric cancer patient and will ask the question that determines our success: will our design interventions make life better for families facing cancer?

The next frontier of family care

Yes We Cancer is a bold new effort to revolutionize how families manage – and thrive – during and after pediatric cancer. We are bringing together the best thinking on sociology, health, social work, and family resilience, and engaging designers from across the country to develop new ways to fill these gaps and help thousands of families in need.

We're starting with a thorough understanding of the family's cancer journey. This will tackle issues already known to healthcare (like insurance) and dive into untouched territories (like how cancer disrupts family traditions).

We’d love to hear your ideas on how we can keep making improvements, transforming the family care experience, and curing everything that sucks about cancer.
